Basalt Thin Client Servers

The Basalt Server is a Linux based server that provides a full graphic user interface to thin client PCs. Applications include email, web browsing and a full office suite which is compatible with Microsoft Office XP plus other document formats such as RTF and Word Perfect.

The thin client PCs can be old desktop systems that have been "retired" or new entry-level systems. The server provides much of the processing and all of the clients storage, making it a simple environment to support and manage.

This configuration has successfully been run in a production environment at the World Summit with 120 thin clients.
