Virtual Private Networks (VPNs)

Fundamentally, a VPN is a set of tools which allow networks at different locations to be securely connected, using the public network as the transport layer.

It is a cost effective and highly secure way for a company to enable Wide Area Networking.

VPNs use cryptography to provide protections against eavesdropping and active attacks.

VPNs are easy and cost effective to scale and can be customized to match the requirements of each individual company.

VPNs are most commonly used today for connecting the branch offices of a company to head-office as well as to provide "road-warrior" access to the corporate LAN.

The Virtual Private Network solution can also integrate load-balancing, enabling the connectivity to be scaled to match the bandwidth requirements of the branch.

Versions:

1. Road Warrior VPN
Enables "road warriors" to connect via a remote VPN connection to the office and access service on the corporate LAN. Road warrior VPN incorporates technoogies such as 3G/HSDPA, iBurst and ADSL.

2. Branch VPN (WAN)
VPN's enables the branch offices of a company to connect securely to the corporate head-office. Using a VPN enables a company to seamlessly integrate systems such as ERP, Email platforms and remote support in a dispersed environment.

On a second level, a "cluster" of branches can be created by linking each branch belonging to a business unit to the specific business unit centre.
Thus branch offices will be connected to the corporate head-office as well as to the business unit centre.
